Jennifer Peña is retiring at the end of November
Congratulations to Jennifer Peña, an Early Childhood Education Specialist at our Washington Service Center, on her upcoming retirement. After 26 years of service, Jennifer plans to retire on Friday, Nov. 30. Jennifer was one of our agency’s first Early Childhood Education Specialists. She has held various positions in Washington County. Her first assignment was in a preschool classroom at Tobias Elementary.
“As one of the pioneers in the development of Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) in Washington County, Jennifer has been instrumental in bringing quality early intervention and special education services to families with young children with developmental disabilities or delays,” says Peggy Freund, an EI/ECSE Coordinator.
Since July of 2013, Jennifer has worked on the EI/ECSE evaluation team. She typically completes eight evaluations a week and averages about 300 evaluations each year.
“Not only will her hard work be missed, but so will her patience, kindness and humor,” says colleague Jennie Jones, a Speech-Language Pathologist who also works on the evaluation team. “She has been a steadfast presence on the team, and she will leave very large shoes to fill.”
THE WEEK AHEAD

Attend a listening session with Superintendent Saxton
Rob Saxton has held listening sessions at three of our service centers and all of our schools. He plans to visit the Columbia Service Center and our three Early Childhood Centers in November. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far. If you haven’t had the chance, yet, please consider attending. Rob wants to hear your thoughts about how we’re doing and what we can improve this school year. Sessions are listed below, but check back weekly for updates!
Columbia Service Center Nov. 30 at 11 a.m.
If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled listening sessions but would still like the opportunity to meet with the superintendent or share your ideas for the ESD, please email Lauren Slyh O’Driscoll.
Give us your best shot!
If you have a great photo of your work with students, parents, school district staff or NWRESD colleagues, please email it to Tracey Goldner. We need photos for our website, social media, annual reports, newsletters and flyers. Please include a caption with each photo you submit. Please also make sure you have permission to use these photos. Use our general use release form for interviews/photos/recording/filming >>
Google File Stream updates coming this week
Starting this week, the IT team will automatically install the Google Drive File Stream program on all NWRESD computers through Software Center. This program lets you access content in your Google account through a G drive, similar to the O and the U drives, without having to sign into your Google account in a browser such as Chrome or FireFox. When you use the G drive, you can:
- Quickly see all your Google Drive files in Windows Explorer (including Team Drives).
- Open files in common apps like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Choose which files or folders you'd like to make available offline for times when you won’t have internet access.
Important: After Google Drive File Stream has installed, you will need to start the program from your Start Menu and sign in with your ESD email address and your new passphrase. If you already have File Stream installed, no changes will be made. If you are using the older Google Drive program, Google Drive File Stream will replace it.
Read more detailed instructions about setting up and using Google Drive File Stream.
Watch for more helpful Google info in future Monday Memos!
We recently received a suggestion asking us to make sure families know about the family parking spaces at the Washington Service Center. Nancy Ford is going to discuss the family permitting process with the EI/ECSE team.
We received another suggestion requesting spirit days. Please work with your site’s Sunshine Committee to coordinate spirit days, gatherings and other events. If you work at the Washington Service Center and would like to serve on the Sunshine Committee, please email Tracey Goldner.
The third suggestion requested mindfulness/meditation rooms in our buildings. We are not going to create separate spaces at our sites for meditation at this point, but please feel free to reserve and use conference rooms when they are not being used. Read more about our recent staff suggestions >>
