ALEX'S STORY

At a conference last year, Jan Cuciti, NWRESD occupational therapist, won a custom bike from Amtryke Therapeutic Tricycles (http://www.amtrykestore.org/ ). Jan sat on her prize for a very long time, when at an IEP at Hilhi in November, she heard Alexandria-Victoria Clark’s story. Alex was riding an adapted bike in her adapted PE program at school. She so enjoyed it, that her parents went out and purchased an on-the-shelf adult tricycle. This bike did not provide Alex with enough support and she felt insecure when riding it. Thus, the trike gathered dust in the garage, and Alex did all of her riding at school.
A quick email to verify that the custom bike was still available, there was a flurry of activity to get permission slips, the measuring, and the ordering done. Then came the waiting, and then more waiting. The adapted tryke arrived, but not assembled! Kudos to Kelley McHugh, PT, for suggesting the Poynter Bike Club. Alex has finally received her now-assembled tryke. It's been fitted, and she did her first ride. Alex now looks forward to graduation, and being able to go bike rides with her family in the park that is literally across the street from her house.
