Human Resources  Life and Disability Q & A

Q: Can I purchase additional life insurance for myself or my family members?
A: Eligible employees may elect Optional Life coverage in units of $10,000 to a maximum of $500,000. Dependent coverage is also available for a spouse/domestic partner in units of $10,000 to a maximum of $500,000 and for eligible children in units of $2,000 to a maximum of $10,000. Optional Dependent Life coverage cannot exceed 100% of the Employee Optional Life coverage.

Q: When my benefits end, is there a way to continue my coverage and pay for it myself (similar to the COBRA option for health insurance)?
A: Yes, you can apply for a “conversion policy” directly with the carrier within 31 days of losing your NWRESD insurance.

Q: How long does it take to get a determination once I submit an LTD claim?
A: The amount of time the carrier takes to evaluate your claim can vary depending on the  details of your disability and whether they need to request additional information from your healthcare providers.  You can call The Standard Insurance Company at 1-866-756-8115 for additional information.
